Default GW Community

This is my first MMORPG, and to tell you the truth it's pretty disappointing.

No, not the game...the community. I like to mix it up between PvE and PvP. I like PvE because I can do it mostly solo, but PvP comes as more of a challenge for me.

Recently I've been doing the snowball arena and some Random Arena PvP. I play a monk on both sides and no matter what I do, people are arrogant and disrespectful to everyone. If someone on my team dies in PvP, it's my fault. If our team loses the snowball arena, everyone cusses at eachother.

Now I have no basis for comparison, but is this the way all MMORPGs are?

People get this way around snowball arenas, there are many ppl in there trying to grind for the gamer title who know what they're doing. Then there are ppl on their team that may be new at snowball arena who they feel caused the team to loose.

You don't get anything for loosing in snowball arena, no gamer pts, no cc shards. It's not surprising they get upset. I know I did when I was trying to get to r3 gamer and Id have ppl who would attack someone on the other team who wasnt holding a present.

Point is, most ppl in snowball arena aren't there to have fun, they're there to win.

I see you probably have never played online games at all. Otherwise you would've know everything about jerks of my type.

It's much worse in WoW or CSS, though.

Ignore people who take random PVP seriously and try laughing at them. Its funny when people think they know everything, but they are playing in random teams and expecting to win all the time.

It's a frustrating game for PVP. Either you're going to win or you're going to lose embarrassingly most of the time. There's almost never middle ground because you go in with your skills stuck on what they are and know what's going to happen in about 10 seconds when you see the other team. If the build situation is bad this means you pretty much have to try for nothing while the other team still dances on your corpses.

Oddly enough they even kept the frustration in snowball arena by imbalancing the sides. It's definitely frustrating to get your ass kicked by a good dwayna team knowing what a huge advantage they have. (Not saying they're not beatable, just exactly what I said, a GOOD dwayna team.)

People will be childish. I've played other MMORPG's and that's just the way it is. Generally speaking, 80% of the community is nice and supportive. However, the ones you notice most are the obnoxious asshats that curse and demean everyone. Just be thankful that you don't have to deal with those people in real life.

I generally hate most of the Guild Wars community, which is why I try to avoid PvP, and only do PvE either solo, or with my friends.

For example, people absolutely FREAK OUT in Alliance Battles when you are losing by more than 25 points. People take the game too seriously, and because of that, they don't realize how rude they are.

It also looks like you just started GW, in which case you would have been starting over three years into the game's existence. In that time, the people who made the game fun when it first came out have since a) stopped playing, or b) associate only with their guild.

The community has changed a lot in the past three years.

And besides, no matter what game you play, if someone dies, its always the monk / druid / shaman's fault :-)

Average Nice Person+Anonymity=Total Douche

Sad but true. This is why I avoid PvP, 90% of them are douches. PvE, only ~75% is, and I can solo that.

GW has gone downhill over the years, but that happens with every online game. It's easy enough to avoid the kids and ego driven idiots. Find a good active guild, and build yourself a good friends list with varying degrees of 'skill'.

i play this game to win at shit. Not have nubs who think theyre the one try and prove me wrong. I goto the snowball arena hoping that people have a slight idea of how to play so that way i can carry the team. Not people take presents to the wrong avatar and then call everyone else a noob.

And in pvp monks are the most demanding proffession. It is your JOB to keep people alive, it says so in the manual. Just going to add, people who overextend can be ignored. As will their general ignorance regarding doing something wrong. Dont be shit at something and then expect everyone to give you an easy ride. Just reading your post its rather obvious this is your first mmorpg else you wouldve stfu and stop crying by now.

If your expecting everyone to be really nice and wondering why people are so mean, you should go away.

So people aren't allowed to learn then, and I'm sure you hopped into the arenas first time and aced it no doubt.

@OP:This is the type of person to expect, anything better is reason to celebrate.I laugh when I play arenas late late at night because all of these kids (I could care less about their numerical age) are asleep and it's actually fun.

So when people like this do try to rage you just remember, it's past their naptime and their getting fussy for their blankie.Oh and they can't act tough in real life so they do it here, simple as that.

People raging at you in the snowball arenas is the best bit. Go for the LOLs and you'll have a blast.

I did it last year in full FoW style. Decked out FoW, nice expensive items etc then played like a 1st day nub. The amount of abusive was tear jerking

@OP Best thing to do is probably ignore people like ^ this. What they dont realize is even though they think they just put the smack down on someone they are just making themselves look foolish and stupid. You respond like they do and then you look just as dumb.
